How to Invest in Red Panda Conservation on Earth Day 2022

The theme of Earth Day 2022 is "Invest In Our Planet". Here are some ways you can make a global impact by supporting our community-based programs in Nepal.

1. Run for Red Pandas!
Celebrate 15 years of red panda conservation with a virtual marathon (or half-marathon) that invests in your health and your planet. Register today!

The event kicks off on Earth Day (April 22) and ends on Biodiversity Day (May 22). Prizes include an ecotrip in Nepal to see red pandas in the wild!

2. Educate and Advocate
Sharing the message that red pandas not only exist but are unique, important and endangeredand are not pets — is critical right now. The popularity of this species is growing and lots of people are probably aware of how cute red pandas are, but they might not know how urgent it is to fight for their conservation! You can also fundraise the first panda or quickly create a fundraiser on Facebook!

3. Make a Gift in Honor of Earth Day
We believe that red panda conservation is very important to global biodiversity. How important? Well, red pandas play a critical role in the conservation of the Eastern Himalayan broadleaf forest — one of our planet's biodiversity hotspots that supports over 500 million people! Red pandas are a flagship species that act as an ambassador for protecting this important ecoregion.

They are also an indicator and umbrella species! Their conservation has landscape-level impacts, and like an umbrella, the entire ecoregion — its forests and wildlife are protected when red pandas are conserved.

Unfortunately, our planet has lost half of its wild red pandas in just 20 years. There may be as few as 2,500 red pandas remaining in the wild. In Nepal, red pandas are threatened by habitat loss and illegal poaching.

Fortunately, our community-based programs are not only a safeguard to prevent extinction but they are also helping red panda numbers improve in Nepal!

Invest in the global impacts of red panda conservation with a donation or symbolically adopt a red panda. All donations made on Earth Day, including for Run for Red Pandas, will be matched dollar-for-dollar by our First Panda Challengers! You can receive this special "They Need Each Other" Earth Day shirt as a free gift (just select "t-shirt" during checkout)!
