By doubling your impact this holiday season, you are contributing to the holistic conservation of wild red pandas and their natural habitat! With your support, we can protect pandas, people, and the planet.
Our red panda conservation efforts are proving to be successful, with red panda numbers improving in the areas where we work. Unfortunately, the global red panda population is still in decline. It is estimated that fewer than 10,000 remain in the wild, and their population might be as low as 2,500.
Extreme poverty and human population growth drive locals to depend heavily on the forest’s finite resources for survival. Forests are cleared for farmland development, and habitat is degraded by intensive grazing, leading to disastrous results for Himalayan wildlife like red pandas.
When the community struggles, so does the wildlife. Because of poverty and scarce livelihood opportunities, red pandas are poached for their fur and trafficked to meet growing demand in the black market pet trade.
Red Panda Network is fighting back with initiatives that reduce poverty, lift livelihoods, and empower local people to protect red pandas and their habitat.

In Nepal, we are establishing the world’s first protected area for this endangered species: the Panchthar-Ilam-Taplejung (PIT) Red Panda Protected Forest. Here, we have developed community-based conservation programs that reduce poverty and support sustainable livelihoods for local people.
This year, we reached a significant milestone: the first official community-protected red panda conservation area is now established in Ilam district, Nepal!
Make double the difference for the first panda!
Now, our priority is to develop a council to manage the Puwamajhuwa Community Red Panda Protected Area and bolster other critical community-based conservation initiatives, which are listed
below.
Plant A Red Panda Home is our national campaign in Nepal to restore red panda habitat and reconnect fragmented forests to establish a biological corridor where red pandas and other threatened species can thrive.
The Poachers to Protectors campaign engages, employs, and empowers former poachers to become red panda protectors. In 2025, we aim to involve five ex-poachers in our sustainable livelihood programs, conserving red pandas.
Forest Guardians are the heart of our community-based conservation programs in Nepal. These local people monitor and protect red panda habitat, and educate their community about the importance of red panda conservation.
Give the gift of conservation for yourself or your loved one with a symbolic red panda adoption! Your donation will be matched x2.
