4 Ways To Save the First Panda for International Red Panda Day 2023

The day of global red panda celebration and conservation is approaching! Here are 4 actions you can take to make a difference for the first panda.

1. Join the IRPD 2023 Panda Party!

Start a campaign and make a donation for International Red Panda Day (IRPD) 2023. It takes only minutes, and all donations are matched dollar-for-dollar thanks to support from Scentbird and Zoo Boise! Funds will support our No Panda Poaching campaign and other community-based programs including Plant A Red Panda Home. The top fundraisers will win awesome prizes!

We currently have 12 anti-poaching networks in Nepal. Anti-poaching networks are made up of local stakeholders, including Forest Guardians, who patrol red panda habitat, remove traps and snares, educate locals on the importance of red panda conservation, and report poaching activity to enforcement agencies. Members of our anti-poaching networks also provide capacity-building training to enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.

Thanks to their hard work, and generous support from people like you, we're seeing results! There have been no recorded cases of illegal red panda pelt trade in Nepal in 2023 — in 2021, there were 37 — and has been a sharp decrease in the number of snares and traps in red panda habitat due to anti-poaching patrols.

With all of this progress and positive updates, we must remember that wildlife crime still threatens the future of the endangered red panda.

Double your impact today to help us stop poaching and keep the illegal panda pelt case number at zero by starting an IRPD 2023 campaign or making a tax-deductible donation that will be matched x2 through Saturday, September 16!

2. Become a Red Panda Ranger!

Join RPN Ranger "Charu" on her mission to raise red panda awareness! A Red Panda Ranger is a special title given to children who help spread the word about red pandas. To become a Red Panda Ranger, your child will “climb” five mountains by completing the activities for each mountain. Every time they complete a level, your child will receive an official badge, and after they complete all five levels, your child will receive a personalized certificate and will officially be a Red Panda Ranger!

3. Raise Awareness!

Tell your friends and family on social media why you love red pandas and why you are celebrating IRPD 2023! Include a fact banner (designed by Laura Siu!) in our post and include these hashtags: #IRPD2023 #NoPandaPoaching #PlantARedPandaHome

4. Become a Panda Guardian!

Join our Panda Guardian team of passionate and dedicated donors!

Panda Guardians directly support sustainable livelihoods in the Himalayan communities who have committed to red panda conservation in Nepal.

For as little as $15 a month you can provide anti-poaching investigation training for a group of Forest Guardians.

For $5 a month, you can support the cost of red panda habitat monitoring by a Forest Guardian!

Join us on the frontlines of conservation with a monthly gift today!
